We had a great meeting June 13th, at the Embassy Suites, Crabtree as Mr. Jody McLeod, NCFA Designer of the Year presented an informative and motivational program on competition design tips that can be used in day to day operations as well.  We finished the evening with the announcement of the Wake County Designer of the Year to Cindy Finger, first runner up to Mandy Roeing and second runner up to Leslie Ivy. We had eight contestants this year, six of them in their first ever competition.

We are looking forward to our next meeting, September 19th at Jagg Classic Wholesale. Our new Designer of the Year is jumping right in and will present a design program including State Fair Design Competition categories as well as the latest Christmas designs for 2006.  Jagg will have all of their Christmas décor out and available for advanced purchase!

We have some fun State Fair Categories this year and we hope you will all come out to hear about them and participate at the State Fair in October. This is our major fundraiser and will of course be featured on our new website! Time for the world to see all the talent we have here in the great state of North Carolina!

Enjoy your summer and hope to see you all at the next meeting!

November 2006

Thanks to all that attended our past meeting Sept. 19th at Jagg Classic Wholesale. We had a wonderful meeting surrounded by all of Jagg’s Christmas splendor.  It was so nice to have attendees from our friends at The Northern Piedmont FA as well.

Wake County Designer of the year, Cindy Finger, presented a design program with beautiful samples for the State Fair Design competition categories. We had a great turnout for the competitions and I wish to thank all of you who participated. Congratulations to all the ribbon winners!

Our next meeting is February 20th at The Capital City Club in downtown Raleigh. We are honored to have as our guest designer Mr. Michael Whaley AIFD who will present a program featuring the latest trends in wedding flowers. We will also have guest speakers from the wedding industry to take the mystery out of working with a wedding planner, how to get the most from wedding shows, etc.

We also have some very important business to discuss at our next meeting. We have been approached by the NPFA on the possibility of merging to form one association for the Triangle. This would involve, dissolving both the WCFA and NPFA and forming a new association, possibly calling it The Triangle Florist Association. I would like you all to be thinking of the pros and cons concerning this matter as you are working over the holidays and hopefully we can have a spirited discussion at our next meeting. I would like to take a vote after our discussion which will decide if we continue with this motion.

As members, this will be your decision!

It is my hopes that you all will have a great holiday season, but not too busy to enjoy some holiday parties yourself! All the best for 2007!

Well, the green pollen is everywhere, so that means Spring is here! I wish you all a great 2007!

Thanks to everyone who attended our membership drive meeting at the Capital City Club in February. About 40 members took advantage of paying their 2007 dues at the door and received a free meal as their reward! We had a great meeting with 60 attendees. Many thanks to our guest speakers from An Elegant Affair and Forever Bridal Productions for their informative programs. We were all disappointed that our guest designer Michael Whaley was sick and unable to participate in the evening. He does want to reschedule and we hope to have him do a program for us in the near future.

For all of you who did not attend, we voted and decided not to merge with Northern Piedmont Florist Association at this time. We want our neighbors to know that they are always welcome to attend our meetings, as anyone from our sister Associations throughout North Carolina.

I hope to see you all at our next meeting with our extraordinary guest, 2006 NC Designer of the Year, Stephanie Garrett as she shares her vast design abilities with us.                 This is a don’t miss!

Our summer meeting will be the Wake County Designer of the Year competition, so get those creative juices flowing!

Happy Spring Everyone!

All in attendance were WOWED with the innovative designs presented to us by 2006 NC Designer of the Year, Stephanie Garret along with her very entertaining assistant  Mr. Jody McLeod 2005 NC Designer of the Year. Stephanie and Jody shared their knowledge with us on latest trends in wedding bouquets as well on how to merchandise our store windows.

A huge Thank-you from WCFA! We are so lucky to have such great talent in our organization! I would also like to Thank CPF for hosting our meeting and Linda from Garner Florist for providing our dinner. This was truly a Wake County family meeting!

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT:

Well, this is my last message to you all as your President. A new board will be elected at our next meeting Sept. 24, 2007. Please see your invitation or evite for details.

It has been a pleasure serving you this past two years. I have reaffirmed old friendships and made new ones as well. On behalf of my self and the rest of the board we would like to offer any assistance to the new board needed for a smooth transition.

We had a great turnout for the Wake County Designer of the Year and I would like to thank you all for participating. It was a very close race for the trophies this year, but in the end, Randy Barbour took home the title, with first runner up going to Linda Buckner and second runner up to Ben Latta. A big thank-you to Cleveland Plant and Flower for supplying the flowers and Jagg Classic Wholesale for supplying containers for the designers to work their magic with.

Trophies were handed out at our regular business meeting and our guest speaker, author and teacher, Ms. Celilia Grimes, spoke to us on practicing proper business etiquette.

Our next and final meeting for 2007 will be held at beautiful Lake Johnson. I hope you will all come as we say goodbye to summer and get ready for the State Fair Design Competition. This is our fundraiser that allows us to give scholarships and keep our organization running. Speaking of scholarships, I am happy to announce that Ms. Brandi Dennison has just been awarded our scholarship for this year! We wish her all the best in furthering her education in this ever changing industry.

It has been a pleasure serving you and I hope to see you all at the next meeting.

I hope your business is as busy as you want it to be and here’s to a great 2008!
